Paloma Miranda Cipriano is a Materials Science and Engineering student with research experience in numerous scientific fields including sustainability, biostatistics, and pharmaceuticals. Under the supervision of various experienced scientists, she became fully proficient with laboratory processing methods, such as dispersion and casting and characterization techniques for mechanical and rheological properties. Her latest internship at Biophilica entailed synthesising and characterising a range of fillers and generated a robust and reproducible method of producing nanoparticles. A key part of her development was expressing her work and ideas through presentations within environments ranging from start-ups to multinational corporations to outreach events. Other relevant experiences included an internship at Xampla, where she developed plastic replacement materials from pea protein, and a placement at Amgen where she worked on data analysis for clinical trials related to lung function. At QMCUR, Paloma’s research will be focused on the development of novel biodegradable plastics and composites.
