A team of six undergraduate students, all working on co-creational education research projects with Dr Rehan Shah, represented QMUL at two national student conferences, namely the evasys Student Engagement Conference and the London Student Sustainability Conference, both held at the University of Westminster on Wed 26 Feb 2025.
The diverse range of projects presented by the students included:
1. 'Making diversity count': empowering students through inclusive STEM curricula - Ava Dahlia Belafonte and Allegra Celesia (evasys Student Engagement Conference)
2. 'Squashing bugs not snakes': designing a Python toolkit to develop students' programming proficiency - Muhie Al-Haimus and Yash Vaghela (evasys Student Engagement Conference)
3. 'Embedding sustainability in mathematics? You must be joking!!!' - Malmi Mahagamage and Meherun Soud (London Student Sustainability Conference)
All of the students work with Dr. Shah on staff-student co-creation projects to enhance education delivery and curriculum development across a wide range of first- and second-year undergraduate mathematics modules delivered at the School of Engineering and Materials Science.
Accompanied by Dr. Shah and Nicole Kirk, one of his first-year undergraduate student researchers, the students gained valuable opportunities at the conferences to engage in networking, dissemination, and academic professional development for their future careers.
